Originally from Indiana, I have made Colorado my home since graduating from law school. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona and then interned for the Arizona State Senate. I received my Juris Doctor degree from the University of Dayton School of Law in Ohio. While in law school I interned for a Madison County, Indiana Circuit Court Judge, and I also interned for an international adoption agency in Colorado. In addition, I was awarded with the Pro Bono Legal Service Honor, I was secretary of my second and third year class Student Bar Association, I was a member of the Volunteer Student Law Project, and a member of the Student Ambassadors.
As an attorney, I focus on the client’s needs when handling legal matters. I listen to your concerns, and concentrate my efforts on what is important to you. Then, I help you find a favorable resolution. I believe that the most agreeable, cost effective, and child pleasing way to resolve legal issues is settling a case out of court by working with both parties in drafting an agreement. However, if an agreement cannot be reached, the settlement process serves as good preparation for a court hearing. Family legal issues can be very emotional and confusing. I make sure I am available to listen to you, answer all of your questions and evaluate your concerns.
I am a Child and Family Investigators (CFI), and can be appointed by the Court to cases that have child custody disputes. The CFI interviews and meets with the parents and children to write a report for the court, recommending a parenting plan for the family.
Also, I am a certified mediator. Often parties initially agree to mediate, have a previous agreement to mediate, or are Court Ordered to mediate prior to filing a Motion with the Court. In all of these situations, I am a firm believer that mediation can help parties deescalate situations and teach parties to work together to make future decisions. Often mediation causes the least amount of tension between parents and causes less stress to be felt by the children.
Because I worked for an international adoption agency, I became very interested in adoption law, and wanting to continue to assist in adoptions. I work with an adoption agency to help in the application and facilitation process for domestic and international adoptions. I am building programs for domestic adoption, surrogacy, international adoption, and international hosting.
I volunteer with the Metro Volunteer Lawyers, and I am a board member of Baby Bud’s Ministry of Denver. I enjoy many Colorado outdoor activities. I love to snow and water ski, hike, bike, snowshoe, and play tennis, golf and volleyball. Also, I am an avid runner.
