Christine Nierenz
I am a Colorado native, and went to the University of Colorado for my undergraduate degree in accounting. I grew up in the Colorado Springs area and have lived in different places along the Front Range.
The only time I spent outside the State of Colorado was during law school, when I attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. While in law school, I served on the Drake Law Review and published an award-winning article regarding tort claims in airplane disasters.
After passing the Colorado Bar in 1998, I served as a Deputy District Attorney in Pueblo, prosecuting misdemeanors and traffic offenses. Since that time, I have worked in general practice setting before coming to The Harris Law Firm, P.C.
I decided to limit my practice to family law matters after becoming aware that while there are a lot of divorce attorneys available, there are many attorneys who do not listen to their client’s goals and hopes for the litigation process. My job as your attorney is to present you with your various options and to advise you of possible consequences of different courses of actions. My job is not to tell you what you want, but to help you decide on a strategy that fits with your goals.
When it comes to divorce and custody matters, my philosophy is to attempt to settle the case, if possible. The benefit to settling cases is that it results in less stress and expense to all parties involved, including the children. However, when there are cases that absolutely cannot be settled, I am prepared to go to court on your behalf. I also handle all the pre and post-nuptial agreements for the Firm, and offer a monthly seminar to discuss the topic in detail.
While I gained a great deal of courtroom experience as a prosecutor, I do not believe that the aggressive style associated with prosecutors is fitting for litigating a divorce case, particularly when children and other sensitive issues are involved. Rather, I believe that a balance must be struck between trying to settle a case while protecting your legal rights and interests in the event litigating your matter is necessary.
I have published articles in The Colorado Lawyer discussing prenuptial agreements as well as the subject of the innocent spouse doctrine. In addition, I have lectured on both subjects to attorneys and paralegals alike.
In my spare time I enjoy a variety of outdoor sports, including cycling, golf, and skiing. I also enjoy spending time exercising and playing with my fiance and two dogs.
