Overview
I received my BA in Psychology from the University of Kansas, and then went on to earn my Masters of Social Work from the University of Texas. My graduate training primarily focused on work with children and families, through work in school settings and in a child guidance clinic. I have pursued ongoing training in play therapy, grief and loss issues, cultural diversity, and group work.
My professional post-graduate experience has ranged from school-based social work to children's social skills groups and work with the elderly. I currently do work with Catholic Charities, where I coordinate their school-based services, including program development and supervision of graduate-level counseling interns. I started my private practice in April of 2007, where I am able to provide supportive services to children and families.
Personal Statement
I've always known that I wanted to be a therapist when I "grew up." As a kid, I was always the one to sort out fights between friends on the playground, give my mom a hug when she was sad, and try to listen when someone needed to talk. Helping others lead a richer and more fulfilling life is my passion, and I find that every client I work with is such a learning experience for me in return. Since graduate school, much of my work has focused on children and families. I treasure the time I spend with my child clients, helping them to build coping skills that will help them through life's trying times. I'm continously amazed at the resilience of children and the incredible strength they have to cope with some of the life situations they've been given.
