When we think of an heir at law, we usually think of intestate estates—that is, dying without a Last Will

and Testament. When we think of adoption, we usually think of an adult adopting a child. A stepfather

adopting his wife’s young son, for example. But there is another kind of adoption. Colorado specifically

provides for the adoption of an adult, too.
