Can I retain my health insurance benefits on my spouse's plan after we divorce?

In Colorado Legal Separation and Divorce are accomplished by the same process. The only difference is at the end of the Legal Separation you are not free to remarry. In a Legal Separation you have to divide debts and assets as well as make provisions for children the same way you have to in a divorce. Sometimes health insurance will continue for the spouse with a Legal Separation. You would have to clarify this with your insurance. Federal law will not allow people to keep former spouses on health insurance when the divorce is final.
