Man Faces 18 Year Prison Term for Vandalizing His Ex Wife's Home

58-year-old Ronald Dean Smith was was accused of breaking into his ex-wife’s Stapleton home in September 2010 and pouring bleach into the baby grand piano, leaving cleat marks on her hardwood floor, and placing uncooked chicken in the heating vents of her house. The court found Mr. Smith guilty Wednesday of breaking into his ex-wife's house and causing thousands of dollars in damages to her home. The court convicted of second-degree burglary and criminal mischief, both felonies.
According to his arrest affidavit, Ronald Smith was a state lobbyist who was hosting a fundraiser for then-Mayor John Hickenlooper on the day of the vandalism. Apparently he arrived late to the event and stayed briefly.

Sentencing is scheduled for November 18th, and Mr. Smith is facing up to 18 years in prison.
