New Years Resolution:Healing the Pain of Divorce

December 10, 2009

Heidi #1For people facing the pain of divorce or separation, the New Year is a good time to commit to the healing process. A marital breakup can be devastating because it will affect your emotions, self-esteem, children, finances and energy levels. With so much personal upheaval, most people going through divorce are unsure of how to find healing from the hurt, and hope for the future.

Many experience a breakthrough in this process by attending recovery support groups. The groups are made up of people who understand the depth of emotions and the "Why?" inherent in the divorce process. They are familiar with the desperation associated with an uncertain future.
"I came into group therapy with fear of rejection, and was welcomed with open arms," said Heather, a participant in a divorces support group in Santa Barbara, CA. "People totally understood what I was going through and supported me in my efforts to get through it."
Divorce support groups are designed to be led by trained, mature facilitators who've experienced divorce or separation. They can help answer questions posed by group participants and point people to practices that will aid the healing process.

Divorce therapy can help you to:

• Identify and cope with your anger, loneliness and depression

• Manage your new financial situation

• Make wise choices regarding your children

• Carefully manage your new relationships

• Find out more about forgiveness and reconciliation

• Find comfort and healing
