Stephen Vertucci Presents Rotary Award to Police Officer Carrie Wills
Stephen Vertucci, Partner with The Harris Law Firm, presented the Rotary Emergency Services Award to Fort Collins Police Office Carrie Wills this week. The award, created to recognize outstanding service by a Fort Collins or Larimer County Police Officer, Sherriff’s Deputy, Fire Fighter, or Paramedic, is presented to an individual who exhibited outstanding courage or bravery in an emergency situation. This year’s recipient, Officer Carrie Wills, was the first responder when a 49 year old man contacted 911 reporting he was going to commit suicide and that he had several loaded weapons in his possession. Upon Officer Wills’ arrival, the man, who was intoxicated, had fired his weapon over 30 times and had exited his home and began randomly shooting. His shots struck neighboring homes, vehicles, and included shots fired in the direction of police officers. Officer Wills, from 70 yards away, fired one shot, striking the man in the hip and preventing this dangerous situation from becoming worse.
