The best parenting plan allows both parents to be involved in the life of the child.

Children of divorce need to be allowed to have healthy and separate relationships with both parents.  If one parent  has a strained relationship with the other parent, and/or decides that the behavior of the other parent is inappropriate for the child, they must work to resolve the issue without involving the child. Children must be free to create a relationship with their other parent on their own terms without undue influence. Parents who are obsessed with alienating their child from the other parent are often vehement in their efforts to damage or even  terminate a child's relationship with their parent. This type of behavior can be considered  a form of child abuse if a child is not allowed to express their love for the targeted mother or father. Divorce parents must respect their children's right to decide how their parental relationships will evolve over time.
