To Marry or Not to Marry?
More than 2 million couples in the US will marry in 2011, but recent U.S. Census Bureau stats show that fewer than half of the households in the United States are currently comprised of married couples. In the past decade, the number of unmarried couples increased 25 percent as more people chose to live together rather than be married. A Pew Research Center study in 2010 showed that an increasing number of Americans now believe that marriage is obsolete. Apparently many people think that with half of all marriages ending in divorce, the institution has become too risky. Conversely, however, the 2010 the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia, reported that more than three-quarters of Americans still believe marriage is "important" and that more than 70 percent of adults under age 30 hope to marry someday.
