US Divorce Rates Have Dipped During the Recessession
Per The Financial Times: US Divorce rates have dipped during the recessession as unemployment surged and the
housing market collapsed.
The rate decreased in 2009 to 9.7 from 9.9 in 2006.
It makes sense since it is more difficult to split up amid high unemployment and a plunge in housing prices.
One divorce lawyer told the newspaper that one of her clients wanted to split with his wife in 2008, but had to stay married
because the bank wouldn't lend him the money to buy her portion of their property.
"People no longer argue about who's keeping the house, but about who's stuck with it," one lawyer quipped to the
newspaper.
