Peggy WalkerUnited Action for Youth (UAY) in Iowa City will be providing kids with educational workshops to deal with their parents divorce. People who have filed for divorce since May 26 will be ordered by the courts to enroll their children in the 2.5 hour program. UAY directors say that children are too often left to fend for themselves emotionaly while their parents are dealing with the repercussions of divorce proceedings, and the workshop can provide a place for kids to express their feelings. UAY says the workshops are designed to incorporate an interactive and educational environment that includes support groups, role-playing, discussions and art therapy. If this program is successful, it will be interesting to see how many other states follow Iowa's lead on workshops for children of divorce.
