From a young age, Peter was interested in the law due to his proclivity for looking at topics and arguments from multiple angles and counterpoints. He also always loved helping people through tough times, which is something that every lawyer needs to know how to do. As a proud member of The Harris Law Firm and practicing primarily out of our office in Boulder, Colorado, Attorney Peter Jacobs applies his analytical mind to complicated and hard-fought family law and divorce cases for his clients.
After he finished his undergraduate degree but before he started law school, Peter gained firsthand experience in the industry by working as a paralegal who handled car accident claims for a taxicab company in San Francisco. In that role, which functioned as a liaison between the company and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), he went to trial in small claims court three times on behalf of the company. The unique experience further motivated him to finish his J.D., and he revamped his education path with trial-centric courses.
Peter completed an intensive legal research project with Professor Ian Farrell, a renowned criminal law and constitutional law expert. He also worked for Judge Lisa Teesch-Maguire and handled petitions for review of prosecutions, which required him to pore over hundreds of pages of court transcripts to look for potential judicial errors. Although the research project and his work under Judge Teesch-Maguire might have been tedious to others, Peter saw both incredible opportunities to improve his skills as a future lawyer.
Peter grew up in Michigan but moved to California in high school, where he first became interested in the outdoors and exploration; that passion would later convince him to move to Colorado. In his free time, he loves to stay active outdoors by playing disc golf or helping his neighbors with yard and tree maintenance. He frequently climbs, rappels, uses Tyrolean traverses over crevasses, explores new areas around Colorado, and hikes with his dog.
