Ben Floyd

Ben Floyd is an attorney at The Harris Law Firm who represents clients from our Denver office in a range of divorce and family law matters. A process-driven advocate with a meticulous attention to detail, Ben is known for his insightful handling of complex and contested matters involving asset and debt division, large estates, tax issues, and other financial complexities.

Ben grew up in a small horse town in South Carolina and earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina. He was drawn to a career in law by his desire to advocate for others facing conflict and confusing processes, as well as his penchant for problem solving and working within a system of defined rules and procedures. Following undergrad, he enrolled at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor. He is currently pursuing an L.L.M. in Taxation at the University of Denver.

Prior to joining our firm, Ben began his career in family law as a Law Clerk for two Post-Decree Magistrates and gained invaluable insight into how courts approach these delicate and consequential cases. He also worked as Counsel for the largest privately held bank in the United States, where he handled matters ranging from commercial contract negotiation to probate issues. He has also served as a Volunteer Lawyer with the Denver Bar Association’s Metro Volunteer Lawyers, receiving the MVL’s Gold Banner award for dedicating over 50 pro bono hours to clients across the Denver metro area in 2019.

As an attorney at The Harris Law Firm, Ben’s practice is driven by a substantive focus on financially complex divorces involving business ownership interests, complex investments, real property, uncommon assets, and tax issues. His natural curiosity lends itself to fact investigations and disclosure reviews, skills which have been further developed by his experience handling matters involving multi-million-dollar estates. Ben is trusted by clients and colleagues alike to tackle truly tough cases, including issues involving hidden assets, property division, and contested child custody. He skillfully navigates cases which necessitate collaboration with subject matter experts such as business valuators, tax and vocational experts, appraisers, retirement and pension valuators, Parental Responsibility Evaluators (PREs), and Child and Family Investigators (CFIs).

When working with individuals and families who come to our firm, Ben takes a client-centered approach. He works to uncover client goals at the outset of the attorney-client relationship, investing time into explaining processes and laws relevant to their cases and creating the candor and trust that promotes their meaningful engagement and participation. While Ben is settlement-focused and keen on helping clients avoid unnecessary conflict, he is always prepared for the prospect of contested hearings and litigation. As a trained mediator, Ben is also able to see the bigger picture when it comes to his clients’ cases and how to best guide them toward favorable outcomes, while minimizing emotional distress and legal fees.

Outside of the courtroom, Ben enjoys travel, tennis, hiking, video games, anime, and exploring restaurants and bars in Denver. He has two cats: Jupiter and Banks.
