As a firm focused exclusively on family law, The Harris Law Firm has been grateful for the opportunities we’ve had to make real differences in our clients’ lives – be they men, women, or children.

In solidarity with the families we’ve helped over the years, and the many others across the nation in need, we’re proud to show our support for National Child Abuse Prevention Month!

About Child Abuse Prevention Month

National Child Abuse Prevention Month is a recognized U.S. observance dedicated to preventing abuse against children. First established in 1983, NCAPM garners formal proclamations from the U.S. President and many state Governors who testify to its importance. As former President Barack Obama noted in a 2016 Proclamation:

“During National Child Abuse Prevention Month, we recommit to giving every child a chance to succeed and to ensuring every child grows up in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment free from abuse and neglect.”

Since its founding, Child Abuse Prevention Month has grown into a truly remarkable display of support, and a major force behind laws and protections that better address vulnerable children, families in need, and child and family well-being. Still, there’s much work to be done: nearly 650,000 children in the U.S. are victims of abuse or neglect, and an estimated 1,500 children die as a result.

How to Get Involved

The saying “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child” is so very true when it comes to preventing child abuse and neglect, and promoting better lives for children and families. That’s why our legal team is happy to spread the word, and to encourage others to learn more about how they can help.

Whether you’re a former client, someone seeking legal assistance, or a person who simply wants to support a great cause, there are many ways you can get involved:

  • Visit ChildWelfare.gov’s Prevention Month webpage to learn more about NCAPM and its history;
  • Help spread the word about preventing mistreatment of children through various outreach materials, sharable graphics and social media posts, and other tools;
  • Attend local events, organize one of your own, or find ways to engage with parents, programs, and community partners using NCAPM activity calendars;
  • Explore NCAPM educational resources to help you foster healthy child development, and protect children in need.

The Harris Law Firm is as passionate about helping people find the resources to improve their personal lives as we are about protecting their rights and futures in the courtroom. Our Family Law Resources offer helpful information about issues like children and divorce, domestic violence, and child support and parenting time.
